Dizzy Gillespie’s “Groovin’ High” (which utilizes the chord changes of “Whispering”) was first recorded by its composer in 1945 and has been a jazz standard ever since.

In 2012, the Barcelona Jazz Orquestra accompanied three major soloists on “Groovin’ High.”

Altoist Phil Woods has a fine spot as does tenor-saxophonist Frank Wess but trumpeter Jon Faddis steals the show.

Faddis’ effortless notes in the stratosphere sail over the ensemble during the second half of this performance.
