Pianist-composer Arturo O’Farrill has been leading the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra since 2001.

The son of arranger-composer Chico O’Farrill, he had gained experience working with Carla Bley, Dizzy Gillespie, Steve Turre, Lester Bowie and others before he gradually took over his ailing father’s big band (the Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra) in 1995, leading it until he formed the Afro-Latin group to perform regularly at Lincoln Center.

“Gulab Jamon” is a passionate original that has a prominent role for O’Farrill’s piano and serves as an excellent example of his adventurous writing.
