Known during its brief existence as the Skyline Trio, the all-star group consists of pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba, bassist Ron Carter, and drummer Jack DeJohnette.
Rubalcaba had only recorded previously with DeJohnette on an album in 1991 (other than one later selection from a live date) and on four other occasions with Carter although Carter and DeJohnette had crossed paths many times since 1966.
Together the three giants perform the swinging postbop original “Gypsy,” with plenty of subtlety and some surprising mood changes.
