Throughout his career, trumpeter Dave Douglas has never been shy to stretch himself, and explore music that, while hinting at past styles, has never been played before.

In 2016 for his duet with pianist Uri Caine, Douglas explores a childlike folk melody (“Ham Fist”), taking the tune through many twists and turns, extending and almost breaking it while never losing sight of the melody.

Caine’s “accompaniment” is quite creative and forceful, pushing and inspiring the trumpeter with the results being quite original and stimulating.
