A renowned Belgian jazz guitarist whose lyrical touch and elegant phrasing have earned him recognition as one of Europe’s finest jazz musicians. He began playing guitar in his teens, inspired by Django Reinhardt and the American bebop masters. By the early 1960s, Catherine was already performing professionally, quickly gaining a reputation for his melodic sensitivity and harmonic sophistication.
His breakthrough came in the 1970s through collaborations with icons such as Dexter Gordon, Chet Baker, Charles Mingus, and Stéphane Grappelli, establishing him as an international talent. Catherine’s acclaimed albums, including September Man (1974) and Guitars (1975), showcased his ability to blend bebop, fusion, and European lyricism into a uniquely personal sound.
