Wes Montgomery was at the peak of his powers in 1965 when he toured Europe.

He plays with great taste on “Here’s That Rainy Day,” allowing pianist Stan Tracey to bring the song in and leaving space for bassist Rick Laird (who would later be part of the Mahavishnu Orchestra) and drummer Jackie Dougan (who provides a light bossa rhythm).

Montgomery’s self-restraint puts the focus on the beauty of the song’s melody
