Wes Montgomery made a major impact on the jazz world during 1959-60 when he began recording for the Riverside label after a decade in obscurity including a long period based in Indianapolis.

Despite his fame in the American jazz world, most of the best films of the influential guitarist took place when he visited Europe in 1965.

He is featured on a faster-than-usual version of “Here’s That Rainy Day” in a quartet with pianist Stan Tracey, bassist Rick Laird (who later on was a member of the Mahavishnu Orchestra), and drummer Jackie Dougan

The song, usually played as a ballad, is taken as a medium-tempo bossa-nova for this rendition from May 7, 1965.
