Ever since she made her recording debut in 1980, Judy Carmichael has been one of the top stride pianists in jazz, playing songs by Fats Waller and swing standards.

On this version of Waller’s “Honeysuckle Rose,” she is joined by guitarist Andy Brown, Dan Block (mostly on tenor), and bassist George Delancey.

Brown and Block actually have little to do as the pianist takes the song for her rollicking feature, swinging hard after a slow melody chorus.
