In 1993, vibraphonist Lionel Hampton, who was 85 at the time, led a remarkable all-star band filled with timeless veterans.
On “How High The Moon,” one gets to see and hear Hampton, trombonist Al Grey, tenor-saxophonist Benny Golson, trumpeter Harry “Sweets” Edison, pianist Junior Mance, and bassist Jimmy Woode all take solos with drummer Panama Francis supporting the players; surprisingly Clark Terry only plays in the ensembles.
There was an awful lot of talent onstage that night.
