Hervé Sellin

A passionate version of a Thelonious Monk song

Hervé Sellin is a French jazz pianist with quite a resume.

After stints on trumpet, trombone and classical piano, he began playing jazz in 1980.

Along the way he has worked with such notables as Guy Lafitte, Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis, Joe Newman, Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson, Harry “Sweets Edison, Art Farmer, Barney Wilen, James Moody, Enrico Rava, Dee Dee Bridgewater (1986-89) and Chet Baker among others, and he was a member of Johnny Griffin’s quartet for 15 years in addition to playing with top French jazz musicians.

Sellin made his first recording in Paris with the Dany Doriz Big Band in 1982, led an album featuring Branford Marsalis as his sideman, and teamed up with Wynton Marsalis on a Richard Galliano recording; he also led at least ten albums of his own.

Heading a quartet with altoist Pierrick Pedron, bassist Bruno Rousselet, and drummer Philippe Soirat, Hervé Sellin performs Thelonious Monk’s “I Mean You.”
