Grant Green (1935-79) was a brilliant jazz guitarist who rarely ever played chords, preferring to stick to single-note horn like lines.
His best work was in the 1960s when he was for a time the house guitarist for the Blue Note label, recording with many of the greats of the era.
Frustrated by his lack of fame and fortune (particularly compared to Wes Montgomery and George Benson), Green switched to funk in the 1970s with limited success before his premature death.
In 1969 he played some of his last straight ahead jazz sessions while on an overseas tour.
From that time is this relaxed version of “I Wish You Love” in which a mellow Green (who was rarely filmed) is accompanied by fellow guitarist Barney Kessel, bassist Larry Ridley, and drummer Don Lamond.
