Carmen McRae describes “If You Never Fall in Love with Me” as a “really cute, up tempo tune.” The year of this performance she made an appearance at the Monterey Jazz Festival.

Written by bassist Sam Jones for Cannonball Adderley’s Quintet, it was originally titled, without lyrics, “Del Sasser.” One (Internet) urban legend has it that Jones named it for an “Irene Del Sasser.” If you can confirm this, let us know.

Personnel:

Carmen McRae, vocals
Norman Simmons, piano
Victor Sproles, bass
Walter Perkins, drums
