Indiana – 1988

The Dutch Swing College Band

A dazzling trombone solo by Bert Boeren

The Dutch Swing College Band, which was founded in 1945 by baritonist-clarinetist Peter Schilperoort, is probably the oldest continuously working jazz group in existence.

Based in Dixieland but also crossing over into swing, the Dutch Swing College Band has recorded fairly regularly during its 80 years of existence and, although none of the original members are still with the group, the band has retained its own sound within trad jazz.

Their version of “Indiana” is a bit different than expected for it is a showcase for the virtuosic, creative and swinging trombone playing of Bert Boeren.

Boeren, who recorded with Scott Hamilton in 1982, worked with the Dutch Swing College Band from the mid-1980s until the early 21st century and has been busy on the European continent throughout his career.
