Jazz Central 1995

Kenny Garrett Trio

Kenny Garrett’s pianoless trio performs five numbers on Jazz Central

Altoist Kenny Garrett has always had his own intense sound, a quality that Miles Davis recognized in the 1980s.

In 1995, Garrett, bassist Nat Reeves and drummer Jeff “Tain” Watts were guests on an episode of Jazz Central, hosted by Ramsey Lewis.

Lewis conducts a couple of good-humored interviews with Garrett that include some Miles Davis stories, and the trio performs passionate versions of “Night And Day,” the Coltranish “2 Down And 1 Across,” “Wayne’s Thang,” “A Time For Love” and “What Is This Thing Called Love.”

Personnel:

Kenny Garrett, alto saxophone
Nat Reeves, bass
Jeff “Tain” Watts, drums
