Alto-saxophonist Richie Cole (1948-2020) helped to revive bebop when he burst upon the scene in the 1970s with his “Alto Madness” band, adding a great deal of energy, wit and creativity to the music.
In 2008 he appeared at a fundraiser for the Denver radio station KUVO-FM, performing one of his favorite tunes, Duke Pearson’s “Jeannine.”
For this version, which prominently features Janine Santana’s congas in the ensembles, the much-missed altoist is joined by pianist Jeff Jenkins, bassist Ken Walker, and drummer Todd Reid.
