There have been many tributes to Billie Holiday through the years, starting as early as the year 1959 when she passed away.
Joe Lovano was a major tenor-saxophonist by the 1970s and has made many rewarding recordings since then.
He is featured on the thoughtful ballad “Lady Day” which is included on the ECM album Paramount Quartet.
With guitarist Julian Lage (who has a short spot), bassist Asante Sante Debriano, and drummer Will Calhoun, Lovano gives plenty of warmth to the original ballad.
This film captures the quartet at the recording session.
