Throughout his career, Paquito D’Rivera has been an inventive, swinging and lively soloist on alto-sax and clarinet.
The Cuban-born D’Rivera defected to the United States early enough to work with Dizzy Gillespie (who helped sponsor him) and has been a major name in the jazz world for decades.
In 2015 he met up with the impressive WDR Big Band from Germany, performing Astor Piazzola’s “Libertango.”
The soloists on the modern tango are trumpeter Andy Haderer, Marelo Nisinman on bandoneon, pianist Hilario Duran, drummer Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez, and D’Rivera on alto.
