Veronica Swift leads at least a triple musical life as a jazz singer, a performer at rock concerts, and a superior interpreter of show tunes.
Teamed with pianist Emmet Cohen’s trio which includes bassist Yasushi Nakamura and drummer Joe Farnsworth, she starts off with a dramatic melody chorus of the vintage pseudo-gospel number “Lonesome Road.”
She then cooks with the trio, showing why she is considered one of the top scat-singers around.
The momentum increases during a heated piano solo, Farnsworth has a short but memorable spot, and the performance concludes with some powerful vocalizing.
