Ottilie Patterson (1932-2011), who was born in Northern Ireland, was one of Great Britain’s best jazz and blues singers.
She is best-known for her performances and recordings with trombonist Chris Barber’s band; they were married for 24 years.
A powerful vocalist who could credibly sing Bessie Smith-style blues and also trad and swing standards, she is featured here with Chris Barber’s band in 1964, performing the Ruth Brown hit “Mama, He Treats Your Daughter Mean.”
