Flugelhornist Chuck Mangione (1940-2025) began his career as a Dizzy Gillespie-inspired bebop soloist, had a stint with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, and became surprisingly popular in the 1970s, culminating in his 1977 hit “Feels So Good.”

He went into semi-retirement in the 1990s but came back to record his two final albums as a leader during 1999-2000.

“Maraccangalha” is from Mangione’s next-to-last album The Feeling’s Back.

The light Brazilian melody features some warm and melodic playing by Mangione, wordless singing as part of the ensemble by Maucha Adnet, and an attractive sounding rhythm section comprised of keyboardist Clif Korman, guitarist Jay Azzolina, bassist David Finck, drummer Paulo Braga, and percussionist Cafe.
