The Newark Academy Big Band perform Duke Ellington’s arrangement of the W. C. Handy composition “Memphis Blues” at the 2015 Essentially Ellington Competition and Festival.
Essentially Ellington is an annual program in which fifteen of North America’s best high school jazz bands perform for a panel of judges. Occurring in May, the competition includes jam sessions, workshops, an awards ceremony, and a closing performance from the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis.
