McCoy Tyner, who became famous and a major influence on other pianists during his five years (1960-65) as a member of the John Coltrane Quartet, had a very significant solo career in the many years to follow.

While often utilizing a trio, he occasionally teamed up with Bobby Hutcherson, an equally influential vibraphonist ever since he rose to fame in the 1960s.

With bassist Charnett Moffett and drummer Eric Harland at a concert in 2002, they dig into an uptempo version of one of Coltrane’s best originals, “Moment’s Notice.”

Tyner may have been 63 at the time but he plays with the intensity and energy of a pianist half his age, Hutcherson is also in excellent form, and the much younger Harland (25) almost steals the show with his solo.
