Written by Duke Ellington in 1930, nearly four decades later the band leader continued with the song in his performing arsenal. Originally called “Dreamy Blues,” Ellington said this was the first tune he ever wrote with the intention of recording.

For 50 years Ellington would continue recording this song in many forms, allowing different band members to make it their own during improvised solos. His website claims this is his most famous song.
