Champian Fulton, the daughter of trumpeter Stephen Fulton, grew up around jazz and has developed into a very impressive pianist and singer.
Dinah Washington is an influence on her singing, she can closely emulate Erroll Garner on the piano, and she sounds very much like a performer from the 1940s and ‘50s but in her own style.
Fulton led 15 albums (some for Japanese labels) during the 2007-22 period.
For this instrumental version of “Moonglow,” she is joined by bassist Gilles Naturel and drummer Steve Brown, making expert use of space and effortlessly swinging.
