My Favorite Things
Pharoah Sanders
Pharoah plays Coltrane’s signature piece
Pharoah Sanders came to fame in the jazz world as a member of the John Coltrane Quintet of late 1965-1967.
Sanders added a great deal of fire and intensity to the group, playing with remarkable ferocity.
While he has displayed more versatility through the years, Sanders is still capable of creating passionate solos as he shows on this version of Coltrane’s trademark piece “My Favorite Things,” playing tenor rather than soprano like ‘Trane.
Joined by a fine rhythm section at the 2007 Ernafest Festival in Catania, Sicily, Sanders hints at Coltrane while performing his own variations on the show tune.
