Percussionist Famoudou Don Moye was born on May 23, 1946, in Rochester, New York.

Moye was introduced to jazz by his mother, who worked at a local club that regularly hosted famous jazz musicians.

Throughout his career, Moye has contributed his extensive knowledge of jazz, African, and Caribbean percussion to a variety of groups, most notably the groundbreaking Art Ensemble of Chicago.

The “Art Ensemble of Chicago” performed at Berlin Jazzfest on October 31, 1991.
