At the 2024 Monterey Jazz Festival, bassist Stanley Clarke paid tribute to Return to Forever and the late Chick Corea with his group N+4EVER.
The highpoint of their set was their version of “No Mystery” which had the group of virtuosic young players (soprano saxophonist Emilio Modeste, guitarist Colin Cook, violinist Evan Garr, keyboardist Beka Gochiashvili, and drummer Shariqu Tucker) joined by the remarkable pianist Hiromi.
Hiromi’s solo is typically wondrous, Cook has an outstanding spot on acoustic guitar, and there is an exciting tradeoff between five of the players.
With young musicians such as Cook, Garr, Gochiashvili, Tucker and Modeste, the future of jazz is safe.
