Bud Powell had a rebirth to his career when he moved to Paris in 1959 for what would be a five-year stay.
This film from Paris’ Club St. Germain in Oct. 1959 finds Powell leading his Three Bosses with bassist Pierre Michelot and drummer Kenny Clarke plus two guests.
On Duke Jordan’s “No Problem,” flugelhornist Clark Terry is heard on the melody statements.
However, the stars of this number are the superior French hard bop tenor-saxophonist Barney Wilen, and drummer Kenny Clarke who displays plenty of power and drive.
