“Nobody Else But Me,” which was written in 1946, was one of Jerome Kern’s last compositions.
Pianist Emmett Cohen, in one of his now-legendary podcast shows, teams up with tenor-saxophonist Joshua Redman, bassist Philip Norris, and drummer Kyle Poole to perform a version of the standard that is quite tasteful and full of subtle creativity.
Cohen’s solo starts quietly and gradually builds and builds while keeping the melody in mind.
The pianist drops out at first during Redman’s relaxed improvisation which follows a similar path, bassist Norris has a thoughtful solo of his own, and then the tenor takes the song out with some memorable playing at its conclusion.
