Louis Armstrong was forced to stop playing trumpet and cut back drastically on his touring in 1968 due to health problems.

By 1970, he was back performing although purely as a singer.

Later in the year he began to play trumpet in public again, still retaining his classic tone although being more sparing with his high notes and doing his best to pace himself.

In February 1971, just five months before his death, he appeared on the Dick Cavett Show, playing an instrumental version of “Ole Miss.”

Louis Armstrong is joined by members of his last band (trombonist Tyree Glenn, clarinetist Joe Muranyi and pianist Marty Napoleon) plus bassist Milt Hinton and drummer Jo Jones.
