If anyone still has any doubts that jazz will always be alive and well, they should watch this performance.

Pianist Emmet Cohen leads a quintet that includes the immortal bassist Ron Carter, drummer Joe Farnsworth, trumpeter Mike Rodriguez, and altoist Kevin Brewster.

Together they perform hot bebop with lively and colorful solos by Brewster, Rodriguez, Cohen, and Farnsworth.

As fun as that is, it is the exuberant tradeoff between Brewster and Rodriguez after the solos that is most memorable as they both battle and collaborate with each other.

Even Ron Carter, who has heard it all, finds it difficult not to smile at their youthful energy and creative ideas.
