Throughout his career, Wayne Shorter was always a very original musician, whether playing tenor or soprano, or as a composer.

Shorter was a key member of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers (1959-64) and Miles Davis’ quintet (1964-70), stretching the boundaries of hard bop and modal jazz into the avant-garde and fusion, simply by being himself.

This obscure performance clip features Wayne Shorter on tenor with a top-notch European rhythm section (pianist Lars Sjoesten, bassist Roman Dylag and drummer Rune Carlsson) in the mid-1960s performing “On Green Dolphin Street.”
