On The Sunny Side Of The Street – 1957

Louis Armstrong

A brief but happy version

Louis Armstrong first performed “On The Sunny Side Of The Street” shortly after it was written in the early 1930s and recorded it several times through the decades.

For this version from the Ed Sullivan Show in 1957 (he was one of Sullivan’s favorite performers), Armstrong sings the lyrics and takes an all-too-brief spot on trumpet.

One can hear (but not see) trombonist Trummy Young playing in the background in this concise rendition.
