Brian Skonberg has long been equally talented as a joyful singer and a hot swing trumpeter.
For this version of the 1930s standard “On The Sunny Side Of The Street,” Ms. Skonberg is joined by tenor-saxophonist Steve Tressler, pianist Mathis Picard, bassist Eric Wheeler, and drummer Elizabeth Goodfellow.
While the solos of Tressler and Picard are a bit more modern during this performance, the leader’s trumpet playing, embrace of the lyrics, and scatting is very much in the classic tradition.
