Ever since Count Basie began playing it nightly in Kansas City in the mid-1930s, “One O’Clock Jump” has been the definitive big band swinging blues.
Clarinetist Paolo Tomelleri and his big band were joined by tenor-saxophonist Scott Hamilton and bassist Nicki Parrott in 2019 for a concert in Italy.
Their version of “One O’Clock Jump” not only has good spots for Hamilton and Parrott but several fine soloists from the orchestra including trombonist Rudi Migliadi, with Tomelleri playing a bit at the end.
