“Parker’s Mood” was given a classic performance by its composer Charlie Parker in 1948.
This version from late in trumpeter Roy Hargrove’s career nearly matches the original.
Hargrove makes a concise and powerful statement, altoist Justin Robinson is bluesy, pianist Sullivan Fortner is outstanding during his solo, and bassist Armeen Saleem (with drummer Quincy Phillips in support) also makes an impressive statement before some loose ensembles bring the song to a close.
