Imagine being in a college band and having McCoy Tyner sitting in on piano!
In 2009 Tyner, who had been famous and influential for nearly 50 years, performed his “Passion Dance” with the Howard University Jazz Ensemble.
The bassist, who fares quite well, must have been thrilled to be playing next to Tyner and tenor-saxophonist Elijah Jamal Balbed has a good spot during the inventive arrangement.
Tyner, who is seen throughout the privately filmed video, was clearly pleased by the band’s performance and plays with power and wit.
