Ella Fitzgerald appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show several times through the years including for the Feb. 2, 1964 show.

Arguably the greatest scat-singer of all time, Ella scats up a storm on this mostly themeless version of “Perdido.”

At the time, trumpeter Roy Eldridge was touring with her quartet and he co-stars during this performance; Ella clearly enjoys and shows no mercy during their tradeoff.
