Trumpeter Sean Jones began to make a stir in 2000 after earning a Master’s degree from Rutgers, working with many other top artists.
In 2004 he became a member of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and started making rewarding albums as a leader.
A powerful hard bop-based trumpeter with a wide range, Jones was a member of the SF Jazz Collective during 2015-17, is an educator, and can always be relied to take powerful solos.
He joins the Emmet Cohen trio (with bassist Russell Hall and drummer Kyle Poole) for a swinging and joyful version of “Pfrancing.”
“Pfrancing (No Blues)” was originally recorded by Miles Davis in 1961 on his Live At The Blackhawk album with pianist Wynton Kelly and this version from 64 years later is a worthy successor.
