Ragtime composer Scott Joplin made several pianola rolls for the company Connorized. One roll for the song “Pleasant Moments” was lost for over nine decades.
A copy of the roll was accidentally mailed to an Ebay purchaser. Though there were errors in the print, an accurate reproduction of the original production roll was extracted by using the “punch matrix” for the original recording, which guided where all legitimate perforations in the roll could have been.
