Altoist Bobby Watson , after graduating from the University of Miami, became a key member of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers during 1977-81.
In addition to freelancing with all-star bands, Watson led Horizon during much of the 1980s and ‘90s; he also worked with the High Court Of Swing, the Tailor-Made Big Band, and the 29th Street Saxophone Quartet.
In 2000, Watson moved to Kansas City where he became an influential educator in addition to playing regularly.
In 2022, he performed “Prince Albert,” which is based on “All The Things You Are,” with a fine local quartet comprised of pianist Daahoud Salim, bassist Bori Albero, and drummer Alessandro Fabbri.
After the bass and piano solos, Watson wails throughout his solo, showing that he was still in prime playing form as he entered his seventies.
