With the passing of Jimmy Smith, Joey DeFrancesco, and Dr. Lonnie Smith, Larry Goldings (who also plays piano and other keyboards) is helping to fill the void on organ.

At the 2012 Monterey Jazz Festival, one of its venues on Sunday night featured organists.

Goldings teams up with the always-masterful guitarist Peter Bernstein and the consistently stimulating drummer Gregory Hutchinson for an uptempo version of “Puttin’ On The Ritz.”

While that 1930s standard is often satirized and played for laughs, this rendition is all about swinging hard with each of the players taking strong solos and making major contributions to the ensembles.
