A major trombonist since the 1970s, Steve Turre long ago developed his own musical personality out of the style of J.J. Johnson and other earlier greats.

Turre heads a quintet on this clip from the 2001 Chivas Jazz Festival that features tenor-saxophonist Javon Jackson, pianist George Cables, bassist Buster Williams, and drummer Victor Lewis.

They perform a Latin jazz-tinged original that has catchy rhythms played by Cables and the rhythm section that inspire excellent solos from the trombonist, Jackson, and Cables (who is in particularly inspiring form).

The result is an infectious performance.
