In 1968 the immortal trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie took an all-star big band on a European tour.
Some of the songs in his repertoire were ones that his orchestra had performed and recorded two decades earlier.
“Ray’s Idea” features both Cecil Payne and Sahib Shihab on baritones, with Shihab getting the edge during a rousing performance of a superior obscurity from the 1940s.
