Danny Gatton (1945-94) was a fiery guitarist who often played what he called “redneck jazz,” a combination of jazz, country, rockabilly and blues.

Buddy Emmons (1937-2015) was one of the all-time top pedal steel guitarists and, while active in country music, he also performed jazz and Western swing.

After playing together a bit in 1977, in 1978 Gatton and Emmons formed the band Redneck Jazz Explosion, a quartet with electric bassist Scott Taylor and drummer Steve Wolf that lived up to its name.

Starting with an explosive blues and continuing with a variety of other pieces, this set serves as a reminder of just how powerful and inventive a guitarist Danny Gatton was during his peak years.
