Michel Petrucciani (1962-99) overcame some very serious health problems to become a brilliant jazz pianist, one who was always very creative in his playing.
While Thelonious Monk’s “’Round Midnight” has been recorded and performed a countless number of times since the mid-1940s, Petrucciani’s solo piano version from 1993 is quite unique, retaining its melody but taking the song into some unexpected places.
