The pianist caresses the timeless melody

Marcus Roberts has been a major jazz pianist at least since the mid-1980s when he succeeded Kenny Kirkland in Wynton Marsalis’ group.

He worked with Marsalis in a variety of settings for a decade (and occasionally since then), gradually also becoming known as a leader, one who has recorded at least 24 albums of his own in his career.

While he has had a low profile during the past few years, Roberts is still quite active.

Here is a tasteful and reverent version of “Silent Night” that has Marcus Roberts caresses the timeless melody and brings out its beauty.
