Vi Redd (1928-2022) was a very talented alto-saxophonist and singer who deserved much more fame (and work) than she received.
She led two very good albums in 1962, worked with the Count Basie Orchestra briefly in 1968 (no studio recordings resulted), recorded six songs with various all-star groups, and was on a Marian McPartland album in 1977, but that was all.
Otherwise she worked as an educator with sexism limiting her opportunities as a saxophonist despite her abilities.
She sings and plays a bit of alto on “Stormy Monday Blues” with the Count Basie Orchestra in 1968 with Basie certainly looking appreciative.
