Throughout his very productive career, Miles Davis very rarely looked backwards, always moving ahead while retaining his personal sound on the trumpet.

A rare exception took place in the summer of 1991 at the Montreux Jazz Festival, just a few months before he passed away.

Quincy Jones talked Davis into revisiting some of the Gil Evans arrangements that he recorded in the 1950s.

With a large orchestra conducted by Jones, a muted Davis plays the melody of “Summertime” before having altoist Kenny Garrett take a solo.
