Sweet And Lovely

Bud Powell

The innovative bebop pianist plays a tasteful solo

On July 13, 1960 at that year’s Antibes Jazz Festival in France, Bud Powell sat in with Charles Mingus’ group on one memorable number.

Prior to that appearance, Powell performed “Sweet And Lovely,” a standard from the 1930s, as an unaccompanied solo.

This tasteful rendition, which in spots hints at Art Tatum, gives one an opportunity to see and hear Bud Powell playing in a relaxed mood.
